I've been working primarily in an Oracle and Oracle Financials environment for the past 15 years. Part of my challenge has been keeping up not only with Oracle technologies but also with many other technologies that interface with Oracle. Unfortunately, I didn't have the luxury of time to go out get lots of training every time a new technology came out.

The Client server boom of the early 1990's and the Web boom of the late 1990's was a constant challenge: lots of technology to learn with little time. As an independent consultant, training was too expensive. As a full time employee, my company didn't want to pay too much for training. Since the late 1990's. I've looked into ways of training myself.

By Y2K (even a bit earlier), Windows NT, 2000 and Linux were strong enough act as industrial strength servers that could compete head to head with big name Unix servers. Oracle, IBM, Sun, Microsoft and Open Source initiatives made software freely available either for trial purposes or for outright production use. This gave people like me a chance to learn install and learn leading technologies freely right on my own PC.

I began installing virtually every available Oracle software right on my Windows NT PC. I've installed number of third party software that connects to Oracle. I learned quite a bit from those experiences. I leaned over the years how to install Windows NT, 2000 and XP, apply service packs, set up a network and perform hardware upgrades.

I've installed Fedora and Red Hat Linux on my own PC. I've installed Oracle software and other software on it. I can say that Linux makes an ideal development environment companies with large Unix installations. My recommendation is always try software, if possible, on a Windows platform first.

In 2008, I decided to a training service to help application developers, IT departments and schools control there own development and training environments. You can't always run to your DBA, Unix or Windows administrator every time a new software comes out. It makes sense to sample software before approaching your IT administration. I am a short term consultants with the aim of getting you trained quickly.

My objective is to help companies and organizations (government, schools, non-profit....) reduce training costs and get a development environment up and running. My own opinion ,it's best to save those limited $training for more advanced specialized courses and do introductory training on your own. I can help you or your company or your organization or your students to get started on the introductory training by setting up a good development environment.
