synopsis:

Unless you're a rebel. Unless you want to Rock. On Planet Mall all musical instruments are banned. The Company Computers generate the tunes and everybody downloads them. It is an age of Boy Bands and of Girl Bands. Of Boy and Girl Bands. Of Girl Bands with a couple of boys in them that look like girls anyway. Nothing is left to chance, hits are scheduled years in advance.

But Resistance is growing. Underneath the gleaming cities, down in the lower depths live the Bohemians. Rebels who believe that there was once a Golden Age when the kids formed their own bands and wrote their own songs. They call that time, The Rhapsody.

Somewhere, the mighty axe of a great and hairy guitar god lies buried deep in rock. The Bohemians need a hero to find this axe and draw it from stone.

Is the one who calls himself Galileo that man?--taken from official website.

my reivew:

great music (all from queen!!!), great cast, great performance, great voices!!! these definitely make up for the lame plot ben elton created. but then, i must give him credit for cramming 31 Queen songs into a 3-hr musical. -- that was what i thought when i walked out of the theatre and i still haven't changed.

i totally didn't plan to watch this one when i went to london but i'm so glad i did because it turned out to be my fav of the whole trip. again, like Full Monty, if u're looking for classy musicals like Les Mis, go to Les Mis; dun go here. but if u something more "modern", this is definitely the one to go.

the cast's stunning performance is the key to its success in west end. Tony Vincent may not have that classy musical voice like Michael Ball but his performance was one of passion n energy. the moment he sang "i want to break free", his first score, i was swept of my feet n completely captured in the show.

Hannah Jane Fox and Sharon D. Clare were amazing too. Hannah has this theatrical rock voice. even more "rock-ish" than Tony's. definitely lived up to Queen's "somebody to love." i'd say Freddie Mercury would be proud of her too. Sharon D. Clare has this really deep, strong, solid voice that simply blow you mind away. u can't find a better Killer Queen than her.

Tony Vincent left the cast in Nov 03 (i watched it in summer 03 so he was still there when i watched it..thank god!). He was replaced by his understudy Mig. those who have watched it said Mig did the role justice. as i have not seen it, i will not judge it. but i can't imagine anyone fitting Tony's shoes since he did an absolutely amazing job. to me, he'll always be the Galileo Figaro. (don't u love the names in the musicals?!!)

fav songs:
i want to break free
somebody to love
under pressure
killer queen
play the game
seven seas of ryhe
hammer to fall
we will rock you
we are the champions
bohemian rhapsody
basically the entire soundtrack is great. they didn't record crazy little thing called love !
