synopsis:
Six steelworkers of every conceivable shape and size are tossed out of work, and to make ends meet, they toss off their clothes. When you ain't got nothing, as the saying goes, you got nothing to lose. Except, of course, your shorts. --Vogue
my review:
i watched it in the summer of 01... an eye opener O________O.
j/k.. it was adapted from the movie so the underlying theme is the same: six men out of work and everything seems to be crashing down on them. n their resolution is to strip.. to win their dignity back. ironic eh? but all in all it was a heart warming musical. good thing about this musical is that it is "US-based" meaning there's no brit slang so that u won't end up scratching yr head most of the time when u should be laughing yr head off. it also has less "dark humor" compared to the movie. a very enjoyable musical. w/ a lil surprise in the end heehee *evil grin*. no j/k they switch the light off so fast i swear u won't see anything. (bring a flashlight if you really want to see something. *wink*)

when i watched it, the original cast was still there. Patrick Wilson (Angels in America, the Alamo; Tony Awards nominee) was great. so were the rest of the guys. totally win the sympathy of the audience towards their situations. the song "men" pretty much sums up how crappy the six men's lives were. altho the musical mostly evolve around the guys, dun forget the ladies. their strongest piece would be "a women's world." not my fav but it's good.

i'd definitely recommended this musical for people who are open minded. those who love rent and urinetown should check this out. it's not those typical musicals like phantom or chicago or wutnot. it's less uptight n less classy but u're gonna have a great time at the theater n u'll love these characters and songs.

point of warning: practically everybody in the origianl cast left. i dun suppose anyone would want to strip every night (almost) for more than two years. i've no idea how the current cast is doing. but when Patrick was there, it was grrrrreat.

fav songs:
scrap
men
big ass rock
breeze off the river
walk with me
let it go!
