Electronics

Looking at the clues you have so far, you go to the house of a suspected criminal organization agent.  You do not have any hard evidence so far, so you decide to tap the phone lines in hope of finding more evidence.

There are alarms and phone lines at the right side of the screen.  You have to cut power to the phone lines without giving power to the alarms.

You do that by switching the chip you have in your hand  with a chip on the circuit board.
Some chips have a gray square around them to show that they are fixed  and cannot be replaced.
Others are marked by an question mark showing that you cannot be sure what kind of chip it is until you replace it.

If the criminal agents in the house are unsuspicious, you will get 10 minutes to cut power to the 5 phone lines.  If they are on maximum alert, you might get only 3 minutes!

The same kind of puzzle can be played when following suspects from an allied criminal organization to find out where there house is located, if prefer to put a tracking device on their car instead of following it.

Done:

  • Chip cursors: to show the chip you have in hand, the mouse cursor changes into it.  You simply have to click on the chip you want to switch it.
  • Power lines: Determines where there is power and adjust the display accordingly.
  • Alarms and Disconnected phone line:  Detects if an alarm is sounded and if more phone lines are disconnected.  You get a message when an alarm is sounded or when all phone lines are disconnected.
  • Countdown: You get a countdown of the time you have left to disconnect the phone lines.  Once the time is up, you get a message indicating how many phone lines where tapped.
  • Sound effects
  • Background music (.mp3) in played from the Music\Electronic folder, but none are in there by default.

Left to do:

  • Car tracking devices:  Replace the phone icons by tracking devices when you want to track a criminal to his safehouse.
  • Difficulty levels: The chips available and the number of unknown and fixed chips depend on the difficulty level.
  • Icon for the window.
  • Appropriate music that is free to redistribute.

Ideas for improvements:

  • I find that using a mouse for this activity makes it much easier.  To make it a bit harder, some chips could remain unknown when picked up.
