Welcome to the Fastwave II picture site for the 2001 RORC Rolex Fastnet Race. This site has been created to share the photos taken during the race, and provide some personal insight in to one of the boats racing. The website has been cobbled together as fast as possible in order to be available soon after the finish, so apologies for the simple design.

The Race

The Fastnet Race is run every two years and is organised and run by the Royal Ocean Racing Club. The 2001 race was sponsored by Rolex. The race started at 1740BST on Sunday 12th August off the historic Royal Yacht Squadron line at Cowes, on the Isle of Wight and the boat completed the race in the early afternoon of Thursday 16th, other boats finishing several days either side of this time, depending on size and skill!

The Boat

Fastwave 2 is a Beneteau First 40.7 (feet) which is typically raced with a crew of 10-12 people. It has a 9/10th fractional rig with a symetrical spinnaker pole. Only bought this year, the boat has already achieved a 2nd in the Warsash Spring Series and won several RORC races this year. The boat is owned by ACP Sailing, a syndicate put together by Adrian, Chris and Peter.

The Crew

As the Fastnet Race is considerably longer than even other offshore events, positions were more varied than usual, but the general main positions working towards the bow were:

Chris Brown - Owner - Skipper

Greg O'Hagan - Navigation

Neil Morton - Mail Trim

Peter Harding - Owner - Head & Spinnaker Trim

Ben Myers - Head & Spinnaker Trim

Adam Cowley - Pit

Jo Wright- Cockpit, Trim

Adrian Abb - Owner - Mast

Charlie Muir - Grinding, Sewer, butt of jokes and general skivvy

Ash Perrin - Bow

Cornelius 'Cam' Geer - Bow, Spinnaker Trim

I hope you enjoy this site and that it gives you a little more information in to this amazing race. For additional information please visit the Contacts & Links page.

Happy Sailing,

Charlie Muir
