The Rehearsal Dinner

Okay, I don't even know why I designated a page for this, because I kind of bagged any and all planning for rehearsal dinner. Then again, it's really important to get this done, so we don't look like a bunch of lost people wandering around. We found out a few little things that needed work, like ceremony music and timing, where the parents were to sit and who goes down the aisle first. But I felt so haphazzard at the start of that day! I didn't have my judge confirmed until 3 days prior, Carol was more than just a little nervous since she hadn't sung with Ron yet, and the house was still in need of cleaning. So for dinner... I ordered Chinese food!

The Successes...

Everyone LOVED the food. It was immediate, came with utensils, clean-up was easy and the selection was huge. Before the rehearsal were where many of my problems stemmed, but by the time the judge came by, everything went smoothly. I knew where everything was, I had the singers in place and I became the take charge kind of a gal. I almost felt like announcing, "Who needs a coordinator?! I've got everything under control!". We timed the processional song twice and everyone seemed to know what they were doing. We even made sure the guests knew that the judge was to ask them to respond with "we do" when asked if they support and accept our union and renewal of vows. Right before the judge left, the food had arrived and we got the picnic table out! It was a great night. Most of the out of town guests came to chat & take a peek at our new house. They were also able to get a lot of their "reunioning" chat accomplished that evening..

Even though it could be costly, inviting all the out of town guests was a great idea, because not only did it give them soemthing to do, it also gives them more time with each other.

Also, it was outside towards the end of summer, so we were prepared with these mosquito coils. We got about 6 of them, which was great because my mom & her sister hovered over them.

A few points & reminders: remember to wear your wedding shoes for the dinner, since you're going down the aisle, you might as well get the feel for it, too. In fact, I should've worn my petticoat, since for the day of the wedding, it slipped down and I almost tripped on it going down the aisle!

The Glitch...

We were eating Chinese food for days! (In fact, I'm still using up packets of soy sauce from the dinner!)

Another thing was that we should've set up the chairs for the parents and practiced the recessional as well. My mom & dad ended up standing during the ceremony since the seats they were supposed to sit at had guests sitting in them. The kids got a little confused with who was to go down the aisle and when, and since my attendants didn't have "even partners", during the wedding, they got a little mis-stepped during the recessional. No big deal though, everyone looked great.
