The Ceremony

One would think that a re-affirmation ceremony would be a piece of cake. Hey, anyone could actually perform, we were already married! But I wanted to have an official "officiant" preside over the ceremony.

The Successes...

The judge was so easy to work with. I'd asked to have some customization in our vows, and he happily put it together. Here's a copy of the vows that he was kind enough to print for us. In fact, it went so smoothly, that I don't remember why I wanted to put a whole page together for it. Oh yes... I remember now.

The Glitch...

Because we only needed a judge and not a religious officiant, I didn't need all the lead time that most of the planners & lists told me. A judge could even make an appointment a week before the big day. Then again, they could also schedule as would any important business man. I originally had a different judge from the city of Hammond to preside and becuase his secretary had 3:00 and I'd scheduled for 3:30, there was a scheduling conflict. He couldn't re-schedule his other appointment. He instead, referred me to another gentleman that I didn't meet until the rehearsal dinner. Randy was kind enough to chat with me a few times before the dinner to answer a few questions before the rehearsal. Such as the customization of the vows and the length of time he was to stay with us.

However, even though everything turned out great, I'd still suggeest interviewing the person presiding over your ceremony. A friend of mine, who had a recommendation from another trusted friend, hired an officiant that showed up late, and was dressed a little badly. (He had a shirt that had a big stain on it!) So meeting with the officiant, no matter how late, is highly recommended!
