Our Invitation

If you can't tell, we like frogs...

I know that most people on a budget would say that invitations should be low on the priority list, but I went all out on my invites. This was definitely not a "budget" item but hey, I made my own exceptions. This was an 8" x 8" size with a double door design. The entire invitation was wrapped in a scalloped-edge tissue with the names of the invitees on a seal with the same logo. Speaking of logo, I actually scanned this myself and sent it to the vendor. I loved my vendor! I saw a few examples of her work at a Bridal Expo, and filed her card in my binder. After lots of shopping around, I'd decided to go with her and have a totally custom invitation made. Doyle & I are fond of frogs so I got this photo from a garden magazine and sent it to her via e-Mail. In fact, we did all of our transactions either via e-Mail or regular "snail mail". I sent her the poem on the left side of the door, and on the right was my reception information. The wording was on a velum overlay over the photo logo. Included in the price were response cards and I'd also ordered matching Thank You's. To cut some costs, I made my own  hotel information card and my own map. One of the nicest things about this vendor was that I was about 10 invitations short and she was able to produce a few more without charging me extra fees... all in a one week turn-around! She only charged me per invitation price. She was wonderful! If anyone was interested in contacting her, feel free to e-Mail me directly.

If you can make out the words, the hardest part of the entire invitation was the wording. Because Doyle & I were already married and we were throwing our own wedding, it was hard to find the proper wording. After about 15 pages of re-writes, I finally picked out the words above. I think it came out quite nicely.

I was able to make my own matching accessories as well. Since I'd sent her the art, I had a copy of it myself. SO I made direction cards and hotel information cards. I bought a pair of craft scissors that had the same deckled edge that the "Thank You" cards had so I saved a bit on that. I tried to re-create the tissue wrap that went around each card, but just couldn't. So I paid extra, but it was well worth it.

I'd also made my own programs. Most programs I've seen were pretty "blah" and sometimes even cheezy. I know I could've bought pretty stationary, but I wanted something a little different. I ended up making unique programs in an odd size, with ivory card stock on the outside and ivory stationary paper inside with all the program detals. I'd also bound each one with organza ribbon for that extra customized touch. Because it was so dainty, I didn't add any graphics, but I'd added a story/quote  ("Dance like no one's watching") to the back page to make it special. Click on "next" to see our program.
