Groomswear & Groomsmen's wear

The first thing I that was decided was that there were going to be no tuxedos! Doyle isn't much of a suit and tie guy, so I thought to put him in some nice cottony / summery outfit for our day. I chose an ivory based outfit with a mandarin collar and button clip, with a simple vest for. For rest of the men, including fathers and usher, I wanted something matching. I initially thought of the same linen slacks. a billowy shirt and some kind of colored/embroidered vests. I put some of the shopping off at the last minute and found that it was really hard to get an outfit that I had only pictured in my head. The kind of vest I pictured are much harder to come by than I thought. (I'm not sure if they even exist!)

The Successes...

Once I finally found the slacks that I really wanted, I had to find vests. Little did I know that vests in other colors than black and brown were very hard to come by. For Doyle, I couldn't find the vest that I pictured in my head. I was looking for a low-scooped fitted, double breasted vest, but it just wasn't out there. I thought of getting one made but my timing was off, since I'd put it off so long. I ended up at the tuxedo rentals, and bought his vest that you see in the pictures. Not my dream, but he looked great.

With the help of Sandra, and the wonderful sales associate at Bachrach, we found some great shirts and ties that complimented the Bridesmaids dresses really well. I was kind of hoping for billowy, loose weave, cotton button down shirts with ivory linen vests, but I had to make do with what was available. (I was going for romantic, but I seem to be descirbing Fabio.) The color of the shirts were lighter than the Bridesmaids dresses, but the tiesreally pulled it all together. It was funny, because Doyle was unsure about how his dad would feel about wearing purple, but it looked really great on him. It's surprising how well that color looks on a range of skin tones and looks. As for shoes, I just told them all to get something brown. Didn't matter what they were, as long as they were brown. Doyle's dad was pretty happy about that 'cuz he got to wear his cowboy boots!

The Glitch...

In mosts budgets, the groomsmenwear is paid by the groomsmen. This expenditure kind of snuck up on me since most of the guys lived out of state. On Doyle's suggestion, we decided that their attire would be our gift to them. That would've been fine, but just a little pricey-er than I'd bugeted for. I guess that's another reason why I went with the ties instead of vests! If it were as simple as tuxes, putting it together wouldn't have been so hard. But my ideal groomsman outfit, again, just didn't exist. Getting slacks, shirt and a tie for each guy went over $100 each. I suppose if I started shopping for the guys as early as I did for the girls, I may have actually found my ideal outfit for the guys. But don't they look great? :)
