Gem	Month	Lore
Garnet	January	Garnet is given as a symbol of: consistency, perseverance, and good health. According to legend, Garnet gives its wearer guidance in night travel, protects them from night mares, promotes long-lasting love, and prevents depression.
Amethyst	February	Amethyst is given as a symbol of: sincerity, security, and peace of mind. Legends proclaim wearing amethyst or drinking from an amethyst chalice would prevent intoxication. Amethyst is used to increase spiritually.
Aquamarine	March	Aquamarine is said to re-awaken love in long-married couples and helps in  the making of new friends. Legend has it that to wear aquamarine  would bring love and affection. It is given as a symbol of: beauty, honesty, and loyalty. The name "aquamarine" means sea water.
Diamond	April	Diamond is said to increase personal clarity. For example, it is said to be able to help one see things clearly as well as be straight-forward and honest. Supposedly the higher quality the diamond, the better it would be able to do these things. Diamond is the emblem of fearlessness and invincibility.
Emerald	May	According to legend, Emeralds strengthen the owner's memory, quicken the intelligence and assist in predicting the future. "He who possesses this gem shall enjoy the special protection of God." The stone brings wealth.
Pearl	June	The Pearl symbolizes love, success, and happiness.  Pearls were once thought to be the tears of God. It is an emblem of modesty, chastity and purity. Giving a loved one a gift of natural pearls is one of the nicest gifts one can give. It allows the wearer to see the love of the person who gave them the pearls. The alternate stone for June is moonstone.
Ruby	July	Rubies were thought to ward off misfortune and ill-health. They are given as a symbol of: success, devotion,  and integrity. They are also given to express passion and promise of the heart. Ruby is said to open one's heart to love.
Peridot	August	Peridot is given as a symbol of: fame, dignity, and protection. Legend has it that pirates favored Peridot to protect them against evil.   It also protects the wearer from terrorism  in the night. Peridot is used to help dreams become a reality.
Sapphire	September	Sapphire represents truth, sincerity and consistency.  It expresses commitment and loyalty of the heart. Kings use to wear sapphire around their necks as a powerful defense against harm. The stone preserved the wearer from envy and attracted divine favor.
Opal	October	Opal is used to see possibilities. Opal is given as a symbol of: hope, happiness and truth. The alternate gemstone for October is pink tourmaline. Pink Tourmaline promotes female balance and protection. According to legend, all colors of tourmaline protect the wearer against many dangers and misfortune.
Topaz	November	Topaz is used for strength. It  was thought to help acquire  goodwill . The alternate gemstone for November is Citrine. Citrine is said to help one connect with Spirit. Citrine is given as a symbol of hope, youth, health, and fidelity.
BlueTopaz	December	Blue Topaz has the same lore as golden topaz (see above). The alternate stone for December is Turquoise, which   has been thought to warn the wearer of danger or illness.  The Indians believed if turquoise was affixed to a bow, the arrows shot from it would always hit their mark. It was also believed to bring happiness and good fortune to all.
