The Community Safety & Security Programme (CSSP) is an action plan drawn up and implemented by the residents to tackle various community safety issues and problems through self-help and mutual support. Through the CSSP, residents have the opportunity to take an active lead in implementing programmes and activities that will improve the safety and security of their neighbourhood. CSSP also helps to:

  • Foster community cohesion among local community leaders and residents;
  • Create opportunities for people to solve community problems as a group; and
  • Allow the residents to live harmoniously in a safer and more secure environment.

The community, together with the Community Development Councils, grassroots organisations and the Home Team have initiated and implemented many CSSP projects. Some specific examples of CSSP projects are as follows: -

1. Care & Support
Providing care and support to crime and traffic accidents' victims and their families as well as to the offenders' families.

2. Crime Prevention
Organising crime prevention exhibitions, conducting house to house visits to disseminate crime prevention messages and forming Neighbourhood Watch Groups.

3. Anti-Drug Abuse Awareness
Organising drug prevention exhibitions and talks to create awareness, especially among the youths.

4. Fire Safety Prevention
Educating the housewives and the young on fire safety prevention at homes and teaching them the use of the fire extinguishers.

5. Road Safety
Forming safe drive zones and holding road safety exhibitions for the young and the elderly.
