Learning is a continuous process, and one is
never too old to discover new skills. Some learning
programmes that the Community Development Councils
have organised to promote a culture of lifelong
learning amongst residents are as follows:
1. IT Programmes
The National IT Literacy Programme (NITLP) is
a national initiative to provide IT training to
Singapore Citizens at a highly subsidised rate.
Targeted at workers, homemakers and senior citizens,
the programme will equip trainees with basic computing
and internet skills that will improve their quality
of life and enhance the workers' employability.
The Community Development Councils are offering
these IT programmes to their residents.
2. Community Arts Appreciation
Some of the Community Development Councils, like
Central Singapore and South East Community Development
Councils organise Community Arts Appreciation
programmes to cultivate community support for
the arts.
3. Read and Reach Programme
Organised by the Central Singapore Community Development
Council, the programme involves a group of youths
reading and updating senior citizens on news or
schemes that benefit the senior citizens.
