The Community Development Councils encourage
active citizenry and promote volunteerism to foster
community bonding and instil a sense of emotional
rootedness amongst its residents. To achieve this,
the Community Development Councils work closely
with their project partners and civic organisations
to organise a wide range of community activities
to meet the varied interests of the residents.
1. National Education Programmes
These programmes aim to instil a shared sense
of nationhood and an understanding of the past
amongst our younger generation to meet the challenges
of the future.
2. S21 Forums and Programmes
The Singapore 21 (S21) vision emphasises the importance
of strengthening our "heartware", which
includes: -
- our concern for one another;
- our collective will as a people; and
- the sense of belonging to the same family.
To achieve this shared vision of building a vibrant
community with one heart, the Community Development
Councils organise S21 forums and talks on a regular
basis. Other programmes include Active Citizen
Award and District-level National Day Celebrations.
3. Clean & Green Week
Everyone has a role to play in conserving resources
and preserving nature. The Community Development
Councils help to promote environmental awareness
by jointly organising Tree Planting Day, nature
walks and recycling projects with its project
partners.
4. Volunteerism
Volunteers play a crucial role in building a caring,
compassionate, cohesive and vibrant community.
Through volunteering, the more able and successful
in our society can help the less able and less
well-off, thereby promoting the community spirit
of mutual help.
You can volunteer in areas where you are able
to contribute best and make a difference to the
community. To find out more about volunteering
opportunities, please contact your Community
Development Council. You can also submit your volunteer registration form now.
