"Arriba rocks! I actually enjoyed it a lot, especially Southport." |
"All there is to do is go to pubs, it gets boring and repetitious." |
"The nightlife revolved around drinking, I wasn't too keen on that." |
"There was always something to do if you wanted and didn't care about money." |
The mentality towards drinking is very different than in the States. It is a widely accepted
social activity here, and there is really no stigma attached to it at all. Whereas at home, often
going out and getting drunk is seen as very irresponsible and generally bad, in England (and I'd
dare say Europe as well), it is seen as just unwinding and having a good time. In addition,
there just isn't anything else to do here!
Edge Hill has its own college pub, called The Venue. The biggest night of the week is Wednesday for all
partying. The most popular place for students other than The Venue is Arriba in Ormskirk, pictured here to the right. Yet another
popular place is the Colosseum in Southport and there is also a place in nearby Wigan.
The dress is far
from casual- if you wore a t-shirt and jeans (regular bar-wear in the States), you would be VERY out of place.
The females dress to the hilt, with club clothing and bare skin everywhere, even in the winter.
Tube tops, short skirts, stappy dresses and heels are the rule, not the exception.
