1st seeing dorms:
"Oh shit! But it got better..at least we had a sink."
"Smelled bad, not
a nice view, but I was happy to have a single room."

"It was bare and I really missed my room at that point."

"I am not living here for three months."

Real and Imagined Rooms Edge Hill does not waste any money on accommodation. It is great to have your own room, but they leave much to be desired. The rooms never really seem to be clean. The bedspreads are really ugly. And that's not to mention the British sinks with separate (scalding) hot and (freezing) cold water faucets.

Most rooms have a desk, a desk chair, bookcase, another chair, closet, nightstand and a sink.

This picture to the right shows a real American student's room on the bottom, and a promotional picture from the Edge Hill website of a room, probably from Forest Court, where everything is really nice. A little misleading, isn't it? And an American student would never have that much crap in their room anyways.

My advice would be to work hard on making your room look and smell nicely. Bring or buy candles and air freshener. Bring Febreze. Plan on opening your window a lot. Buy posters or bring things to hang on the wall.

Each "Hall of Residence," as they call them, has a common room like a lounge area. It has a TV and a VCR. You can't play videos from the States; they must be in the European PAL format.

Real and Imagined Kitchens On most every floor is a kitchenette. Once again, this picture shows an imagined and real kitchen. They are quite disgusting, as the students are left to take care of them themselves. However they are necessary and you can find a way to use them, just don't touch any surfaces unless you want salmonella...

*Update note* Two years later: I have since heard that the dorms have been re-done.
