Clifford P. Frankowski, Sr., 46, of 234 Dexter St., died Saturday in Mercy Hospital after a long illness. Mr. Frankowski was a lifelong Toledo resident. He was a microwave technician 23 years for Ohio Bell Telephone co., leaving in February because of illness. He was a member of St. Hedwig Church, Frankowski Post Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Communications Workers of America. Mr. Frankowski and Roman Frankowski, after whom the VFW post was named, were cousins. Surviving are his wife, Loretta; sons, Clifford P., of Toledo, and Craig P., of Columbus; daughter, Paula, mother Mrs. Pauline Frankowski, brother, Norman J. and sister, Mrs. Vivian Tillman, all of Toledo, and one grandchild. STEPHEN FRANKOWSKI - Veteran Founded Argonne Post 545 - Stephen W. Frankowski, 75, who organized a local American Legion post, died yesterday in St. Vincent Hospital after a long illness. He lived at 322 Everett St. Mr. Frankowski was a lifelong Toledo resident. He was a veteran of World War I and, after the war, organized Argonne Post 545, American Legion. He served as the post's commander in 1924, 1940 and 1962, and as commander of the Lucas County Council of the American Legion in 1940. Mr. Frankowski was employed 47 years as a supervisor by the Industrial Commission of Ohio, retiring 10 years ago. He was a member of St. Hedwig Church. He was also a charter member of the Lucas County American Legion Burial Corps, the Legion's 40 and 8, and 17 and 18 Clubs; the Last Man's Club of World War I Veterans, and Roman "Buddy" Frankowski Post 5530 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served on the Selective Service Board and was a member of the 4th Ward Democratic Club and the National Polish Alliance. Stella D. Frankowski passed away at Sunset House on October 19, 1997. She was a life-long member of St. Hedwig Parish. Her parents were Thomas and Mary (Kuhn) Frankowski. She was born November 12, 1907. Upon retiring, after 42 years in the stenographic department of the Jeep Corp., she volunteered at St. Hedwig Rectory. While there she prepared the weekly church bulletin until four years ago. Stella was also a member of the "Buddy" Frankowski Post Ladies' Auxiliary, a life member of St. Francis Guild, the St. Hedwig Seniors Club, and the St. Hedwig Altar and Rosary Societies. Miss Frankowski is survived by her brother, S. T. "Bud" Frankowski (Belva) of Sylvania; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Friends may call at the Urbanski Funeral Home, (419) 244-4611, Lagrange at Dexter from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The body of Pfc. Roman S. Frankowski, believed to be the first Toledo soldier killed in the North African campaign, arrived in Toledo today. Services and burial will be Saturday. Private Frankowski, 33, was killed Jan. 16, 1943 in the battle for Tunisia. Post 5530, Veterans of Foreign Wars subsequently was named in his honor. Private Frankowski lived at 322 Everett St. and was employed in county road maintenance before his induction into the army March 28, 1942. A graduate of Central Catholic High School, he had served as president of the Fourth Ward New Deal Democratic Club.
