Heinrich ROHR was born on 14 Sep 1811 in Hesse-Homburg, Germany. He died on 2 Dec 1871 in Stark Co, OH. He was buried in Massillon, OH / Massillon City Cemetery Sec 15. He married Margaret DIPPEY about 1835.
Heinrich and his wife Margaret emigrated to the United States (Stark Cty, OH / Jackson Twp) ca. 1840 from Hesse-Homburg, a 19th century landgraviate (territory governed by a count) located south of the Nahe River between the cities of Bad Kreuznach and Kaiserlautern in the Pfalz region. He was employed there as a coal miner earning the equivalent of US$0.05 per day.
In the 1840 Ohio Census, the Heinrich ROHR family is not listed in Stark Cty OH; however, there is a Henry ROHR(er) family fitting the ages of the Heinrich ROHR family in Bucks Twp, Tuscarawas Cty OH (Adjacent to Stark Cty). In the 1850 Ohio Census the ROHR(er) family is NOT in the Tuscarawas Cty census and the ROHR family is in the Stark Cty census. Whether or not these are the same families remains a question as of Jan-2000.
W. H. Perrin's book "History of Stark County -1881" p788 states that William ROHR is the youngest of 17 children. Given Margaret's age of 48 when he was born and the "close" birth dates of the other children, it seems very unlikely that there were 17 children. No evidence of more than 14 children has been found. I believe the author mistook some of the grandchildren as direct members of the family or mis-read his notes when compiling the book; however, I have no evidence of this.
