Dear [Representative/Senator and Name of Addressee]:

As a member of your constituent, I'm bring to your attention my concern regarding U.S. foreign policies towards China.  Currently, the Congress and the White House are avoiding issues concerning China's human and women rights violations, its infraction of the
International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

In addition, May 2000, President Bush met with the Dalai Lama, the spiritual leader of Tibet, agreeing to encourage China to enter negotiations with the Dalai Lama or his representatives.  When China balked, President Bush dropped the issue along with the hopes of every single Tibetan refugees and prisoners, as well as human rights activists around the world.

In September of 2001, tragedy struck our nation.  President Bush promises to protect our nation, us, from catastrophic terrors resulting from hatred and violence.  While we have a leadership and military strong and brave enough to protect us and fight back, Tibet has none.

In 2008, the countries will converge in China to celebrate the spirit and athelticism of man in the Olympics.  It is not too early to start pressuring China to re-examine its policies towards Tibet.  I am asking you to re- initiate the first step to bring congressional focus on this extremely pressing subject.  Currently, Tibet is losing its identity through a systematic genocide of its culture and people.

I urge you to support
H.R. 1779/S. 852, the "Tibetan Policy Act" sponsored by Representative Tom Lantos (D-CA) and Mark Kirk (R-IL), and by Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Craig Thomas (R-WY).  The last count in February and May 2002 did not receive the necessary majority to pass; please support this bill.

In additon, continue to press and support issues relating to Tibet and China in Congress before this matter concerning the well-being of Tibetans be completely forgotten by our government.

Thank you for your attention.

Sincerely
