In order for me to move forward in the Spring 2005 and since this photoessay must start somewhere that somewhere  is February 1992.  And, yet, had I not gone to NYC in October 1991 which was a result of Labor Day weekend a few weeks before what would transpire over the next few months would not have occured.  And it is quite possible that I would not have travelled to SFCA in March 1992.  Nor, shortly after Easter 1992, would I have drvien back to Dale City on a suicide mission.

It had been on the morning of 22 March 1987 when after partying at the 1987 Saint Black Party and while having a bite at Lox 'round the Clock, on the corner of 19th Street and 6th Avenue, that Robert said 'years from now you'll come to realize that you were just their nigger!.
It would be 10 years later, to the day, on 22 March 1997 that I'd come to realize precisely what Mapplethorpe had meant.  And that no amount of my working hard, love for a 'white lover' or protesting against racism could have made a difference.  If only, I had been white and not black
