March for Justice Against Police Brutality
WDC . Easter Saturday, 3 April 1999
Lothar would drive down from NYC on Easter Friday arriving in WDC in the early evening.  On Saturday morning, after breakfast at Annie's on 17th Street we'd head to the Martin Luther King Jr. Library at 10/G Streets in downtown where I'd document the 10 am opening rally for the Emergency March for Justice Against Police Brutality.  Demonstrators would then march down 10th Street to Pennsylvania Avenue, turn left and proceed along Pennsylvania Avenue to the US Capitol where on the West Lawn an afternoon rally would be held lasting until the early evening.

The pictures that I would take of the Emergency March for Justice Against Police Brutality on Easter Saturday, 3 April 1999, still rank as one of my favorite collections of protest photography.  Once back at my apartment on Capitol Hill I'd shed light on the fact that as a gay black man who had practiced integration I had expereinced a form of police brutality rooted in racism whereby the law enforcement community and the US Government had paid white men with drugs and money to use their right do drugs and pratice addiction as a weapon against me.  And as had my others before Lothar would say that if what I had said was true then it, certainly, was wrong.  And that I did not deserve it.  Which I had  heard, at least, a billion and one times before.

On Sunday morning, which was Easter. we'd visit the Smithsonian Castle and then the Textile Musem.  And then head to the Resurrection Gospel Revival on the National Mall.  Before driving down to Southern Maryland to visit with my family in Lexington Park and then my grandparents grave at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church and Cemetery in St. Inigoes MD.  We'd drive back to WDC and visit the Vietnam War Veterans Memorial before turning in for evening.

On Monday morning Lothar would drive back to NYC.  At which time I'd head over to the White House Easter Egg Roll.
