This surname appears to come to Tetbury as two brothers, William Holdney and Richard Holdney, about 1701. Samuel Holding visits in 1706, and they leave, having helped Richard settle and the surname becomes Holdy. His son Richard continues till his death in 1761 aged 55.

Edwin & Dilys Hales have researched this family, they looked for a James HOLIDAY on the Vital Records Index C.D. and found a James, c.12.Dec.1706, @ Sherston Magna Wilts.: s/o.John HOLLIDAY & Mary (?).
There were other names listed for this couple, such as:-

All these children were baptised at Sherston Magna, Wiltshire.

Found an Ann MILLS, d/o. a Richard MILLS & Ann (?). who was christened on:- 9.Dec.1706. @ Saint James, Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
Further:- there was .... Elizabeth MILLS, (c.3.Aug.1701). Thomas, (c.27.Jan.1704). ** Ann, (9.Dec.1706). Sarah, (26.Feb.1708).
All baptised (christened) at Saint James. Trowbridge, Wiltshire.

Sarah Holiday married 17280423 to Richard Brampton 1696 as his second wife and baptised John 17290609, Mary 17310317, James 17340418. When their fourth child, Ann was baptised 17380613, Richard is noted to be 'of Swainswick'.

Thomas Holiday, 17340321 son of James, baptised Mary 17600718, John 17621107 and Elizabeth 17650120, and in all three entries he is noted as of Hooks House.
