Location and boundaries
- The region, created under Executive Order 220 signed by former President Corazon C. Aquino on July 15, 1989, is composed of Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Ifugao, Mountain Province and Kalinga. Abra, Benguet and the Mountain Province were formerly part of the Ilocos region, while Apayao, Ifugao and Kalinga form part of the Cagayan Valley region.
- It is considered the country's premiere highland region, highlighted by amazing sights, cool climate and its unique culture and people.
- CAR is bounded in the north by the provinces of Ilocos Norte and Cagayan, in the south by Pangasinan and Nueva Vizcaya, in the east by the Cagayan Valley Region and in the west by the Ilocos Region.
- It is generally cool throughout the year in the region especially in the highly elevated areas of Benguet and the Mountain Province.
Infrastructure facilities
- 1 airport: Loakan Airport in Baguio
- airline services in Tuguegarao, Cagayan and in Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya are available
- Several bus lines servicing the Baguio City-Metro Manila route
