"Live shows and public announcements!"

This past week has been quite the ride... First, we(being myself and my other half) instigate the whole "buying a house" process with a few meetings (mortgage broker, real estate guy... etc...) Which (at the time) were about what i expected, and had no real effect on me, until now, where i feel somewhat defeated... ah hell. We then asked my folks for permission to move back in with them (my folks are the most wonderful people in the world, but it's not an idea i relish at all). And that's that.

This past Saturday we managed to check out good pal Jeff Greene and his band, The Rose City Band, at one of the local clubs... goddamn were they ever smokin! The guys tore through some country tinged rock n roll, some classic rock, and hell, they dug into some Aerosmith, and Steve Miller's Abara Cadabara for good measure... these guys were all over the damned map! And talk about tight! You'd swear this was a band who's been playing together for 20-plus years... call me impressed!

It was during the band's rendition of "Knockin' on Heaven's door" that i went for broke and popped the ole question on Sarah! That's right! WE'RE FREAKIN ENGAGED!!!!! The FNG was right! We ARE next! (you guys know what i'm talking about!) Now it's just a matter of settling into a home and then the fun can begin! Wedding planning!

So after dropping that bombshell on our parents on Easter Sunday things kind of mellowed out a little...

"Insert witty quote here..."

Caught Quentin Tarantino's epic revenge flick, Kill Bill vol. 1 for the second time this past weekend, hell of a lot more fun in the comfort of my own home. The story, for those of you who missed the media onslaught, centers around "The Bride", former hitman, betrayed and left for dead by her boss, Bill. The Bride (played by Uma Thurman) awakens a few years later and goes on a kill-crazy rampage against her former compatriots, the D.I.V.A.S (Deadly Viper Assassination Squad). That's it?? This IS Quentin Tarantino right??? No genre-bending?? No criminal conspiracies?? Time twisting?? Nope... sorry, none... (well, a LITTLE bit of time-twisting).

Obviously this isn't the intense crime drama of Pulp Fiction or Jackie Brown (Quint's best two in my opinion), what we get is a QT love letter to the exploitation and revenge flicks of the seventies from the likes of Golden Harvest or the Shaw Brothers... The script lacks any of the snappy banter of QT's past efforts, thought it certainly cranks the visuals up a few notches, and almost compensates with the intense visuals and over the top gore.

This was a lark for Quentin, a way to have a bit of fun with filmmaking... His visual style is definitely maturing drastically, while the depth one may be used to seeing has definitely been at least shelved for the time being. Lets hope now that he's gotten this out of his system he can re-capture the intelligence and wit of past efforts. That said, i could think of far worse ways to spend a Sunday night that sitting back and watching Uma Thurman slice off limbs and heads in a shower of over the top gore.

"More STAR WARS than STAR WARS!"

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic once again owns the xbox. Hit a REALLY big plot revelation last week, and the momentum i figure may carry me right to the end... unless Final Fantasy XI actually SHOWS UP! (damn you Sony!).

I've ranted about this game at length before i'm sure... but it just plain rules! I'm having a more satisfying experience with this than i have with anything Star Wars before... just plain awesome!

In a Metal mood...

MEGADETH once again sees heavy play in the car... this week it's the Youthanasia album, which was my absolute fave of their material in my "Deth is my fave band" days... the disc still holds up incredibly well, awesome riffs and some great songwriting (exemplary for metal really - nothing less from Megadeth).

Also finally got my personal copy of Jeff's cd back from a friend and have been making up for lost time with that one... Damn solid stuff, one of the best of last year in my books, and i don't have some celebrity persona tarnishing the damn thing as it's the same guy who comes by twice a week to geek out with some video game goodness...

The Web spotlight

As if Kev didn't get enough notice around here, the guy has put up his own DEVIANT-ART site, chock ful of some of the most firecely original work you're ever likely to see... go check it out!
