EVEN BLIND PEOPLE HAVE A POINT OF VIEw.
I must explain my usage of the phrase, point of view. A person may have a hundred or a thousand separate points of view on different topics. On any one subject a person may agee, disagree or agree in part. I am referring to the summation of all one's views which then constitutes the person's worldview. A point of view may have nothing to do with visual sight. Writers are often judged by the visual images in their work and no doubt a few writers try to capture smells, tastes and touches with language. A musician's genre, whether symphonic, pop or jazz flows from his/her point of view. An artist's style and perspective stems from his/her viewpoint. A viewpoint can refer to a photo and artwork in books and magazines . It is great flattery to say a writer's language is almost tactile, meaning you come close to touching his character's milieu. Just as I felt every mature person has a philosophy, whether articulated or acted out, I think everyone has a worldview. Whichever term you find useful -- taste, worldview, philosophy or collected points of view isn't at all important. These terms are all included in my new term WORLDREELS. IN FACT MY WHOLE POINT IS TO ELIMINATE THE BICKERING ABOUT TERMINOLOGY.
When
I feel my worldview has become static I pick up a new book, see
a movie or I might relocate or vacation at a new locale. Whether
it is a story of an alternate world set on a mythical planet or
an alternate reality viewpoint set on earth doesn't matter --
what I want is a new lens to look through. Looking at your
world from another unique perspective is essential
to remodeling your point of view. I want continually to
add to my repertoire of view points. My past world reels are like
so many valuable paintings hanging there on the wall of my mind.
The technique to use in remodeling your worldview is the same
a novelist uses to sketch out a character. Whatever the story
needs to save it from boredom is poured into the next character.
If you begin with the character of an abused daughter then you
need to sketch the abuser parent. It is always your choice. (If
you want to lose weight you can choose to fast or cut out fat,
choose to take pills, or choose to exercise --whatever will you
can muster. Changing your diet will remodel your viewpoint toward
food.) You can add new viewpoints to your worldview by reading
a different newspaper, magazine or internet site -- add whatever
is missing. When it pertains to points of view --
contentment is paralytic. Provide yourself with a new lens
and assume a new posture with which to view your world. THIS
WILL REMODEL YOUR POINT OF VIEW.
