...GOALS...
My goal in 2004 was to qualify for the Boston Marathon by running
a qualifying
race in a fall marathon. I had selected the Steamtown
marathon in Scranton, PA to be held on October 10, 2004.
Preparation for Steamtown went well as I began building a base during the winter
and into spring.
I ran personal bests of 1:40:47 in the half-marathon in
July, followed by a personal best in the 10k of 46:34.
I also placed first in my age division in the USA Track and Field Inland Northwest
Road Race Series.
Then in a trail run (Ridge to Rails) on Aug 8th. I
chipped a bone in my left ankle and wasn't able to resume
training until mid October.
My goals for 2005 are to once again to qualify for the Boston Marathon. The Boston
marathon is the
Holy Grail of running. It was first ran in 1897 and is
unequaled for drama and achievement. This mid April race
sponsored by the Boston Athletic Association is special because you have to
qualify for entry by running
a fast previous marathon. I have selected the North Olympic Discovery Marathon to be held on
June 12, 2004 in Port Angeles WA as my qualifying race. While running the Boston Marathon is
my primary goal I would also like to set personal bests in the one mile,
5k, 10k, 12k and
the half-marathon and or to place first in my age division
each time out.
