"The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma,
Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their
families.  More than 76 percent of our expenditures is directed to research and patient services.
The Society has dedicated itself to being one of the top-rated voluntary health agencies in terms
of dollars that directly fund our mission."

On December 13th, 1998, I ran a marathon as a part of the Leukemia Society's Team in Training Program.
I looked at my own health and my family and felt so lucky that I
decided to do my part to help find a cure for the
#1 disease killer of children. With the
help of my family, friends and co-workers, I raised over $3,500 for the
Leukemia
foundation. It was one of the most satisfying things I have ever taken part in.

"Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money
for research and programs of your American Cancer Society. During the event, teams
of people
gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each
team
tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. Relay For Life represents
the
hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will
be
supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated."

I, along with over 50 of my co-workers participated in the relay for life that took place on the track
at South Ridge High School. My first year as a participant was 2001 and I stayed on the
track until I had
completed a full 26.2 miles. I participated again in 2002 as a relay team member. It was very satisfying to help
raise money for such a worthwhile cause and show support for those less fortunate than I have been.
Recently I particpated in the 2003 Relay For Life and it continues to be a worthwhile cause and I look forward to the next year.

"Habitat for Humanity is an independent, charitable, faith-based housing program dedicated to the elimination
of poverty housing by building homes in partnership with families in need. We build simple, decent, and
affordable houses and provide interest-free mortgages to families who would otherwise not be able to
purchase their own home. The Habitat program is about home ownership and providing a long-term solution
designed to break the poverty cycle. Since 1976, Habitat has built more than 125,000 houses in more than 80
countries, including some 45,000 houses across the United States."

On March 6th, 2003, I ran a 5K race (3.1 miles) in San Diego, California. The profits made from
this race went to help Habitat for Humanity.
