Further explanation of the setting of E.D.E.N. and its population.

New York, one of the leading city-states in trade and militia, is divided into districts along its old neighborhoods of Manhattan, Harlem, etc. These districts are no longer known by their old names- in fact, most no longer remember these names. These districts are known as the B-District (Business District), G-District (Gov't District), A-District (Finer Accommidations/Living Quarters/Restaurants and Shops), S-District (Sciences and Military District), and F-District (Slums, Tenants, Bars, etc.). In order to keep the environ of New York as toxin-free as possible, a weak EMP (electromagnetic pulse) is emitted by towers that arch over and meet in the sky over the city. This pulse is strong enough to repel particles and certain elements, and fry small personal electronic devices. Special cases are sold to protect these devices. Bullet trains (electric rail trains) are the favored method of transportation around the world, and trans-Pacific and -Atlantic railways exist. Planes are rarely used, and the space program, beyond the satellites that connect the city-states, has been all but abandoned.

Personal life is restricted for those not part of the Underground. The main method of personal expression comes in fashion; privately or in the underground, art exists although mainly as a cultural phenomenon. Radio chips are hidden and coveted as prize possessions; DJ's are extremely popular and wealthy; literature is easily come by, but not easily kept. Racing and sports are popular pastimes. There exist as the large population of animals 'S-Dogs' and 'S-Cats', or smart-pets. These were genetically engineered to be more intelligent and pleasing partners to humans. Although not at the human level of intelligence, they far surpass their ancestors.

In the population, 1/4 are suspected to harbor psi-abilities. These include telekinetic abilities to move objects or project thoughts/emotions/images to others, summon or control elements/elementals, create objects, warp or dimensional traveling, healing, etc. The strongest of these, another 1/4, can transform to embody the earthly body of supernatural powers. These are all known as Children of Eden, and will be either killed or taken for study upon capture. Accusation of being or even knowing a Child is serious and may result in torture or death. 1/8 of the pop possesses bionic or electonic limbs or organs. These are known as cyborgs, and are under no special stigma. Mainly these cyborgs acquired their hardware through injury or disability. The only cyborgs who were created under different circumstances belong to the EDF, or Eden Defense Unit, in order to better defend against the Children. They have received enhancements in stamina, strength, and perception of senses.

The government of the New York city-state is known as the Council of Seven. These seven are corporate leaders of biotechnology, weapons technology, militia, manufacturing, electricity, banking, and the Utility of Agriculture and Health. This council votes, schemes, and assassinates to stay in power and decide the fate of the city-state. The military, energy, and finance corporate leaders are by far the most powerful; the rest either group behind one of these leaders or drifts. The Underground is headed off by a group called the Syn, or Syndicate, named for the old mafia. They occasionally reject people from the unofficial brotherhood of the underground, those who have caused too much suspicion from the Council or cause unrest. They also have a hand in all of the Underground's illicit activities, including substance trafficking, illegal slave trade -
with the Council (a fact known by few survivors) -, distribution of art, literature, music, etc., 'credit' laundering (money is called 'credits'), and so on and so forth. The Underground protects its own, watches out for its own, and provides for its own. Its headquarters resides in the basement of the Silicon Chalice, a fairly large sized building that hosts a bar, restraunt, and apartments as well in the A-District.
