Introduction
Japan is a country located in the Pacific Ocean. It is found off of the northeast coast of mainland Asia. Japan is made up of four small islands and thousands of smaller islands. The four major islands are:
1. Hokkaido
2.Honshu
3. Kyushu
4. Shikoku
These islands cover about 1,200 miles. About 125 million people are living on these islands, making Japan one of the most densely populated countries in the world.
Japan's country is made up of mountains and hills. These mountains and hills take up so much of the land that the most of the people live on narrow plains across the coast. These coastal plains inhabit Japan’s best farmland and most of the countries major cities. Japan’s bigger cities are busy centres of culture, commerce, and industry. Tokyo is the capital of Japan.
Japan is one of the world’s economic giants. The only country that exceeds the economic output of Japan is the United States. The Japanese manufacture a many products including automobiles, computers, iron and steel, plastics, radios and television sets. Japan must import many of the raw materials that are needed for manufacturing. The countries factories have some of the most advanced equipment in the world. Japan became a major economic power even though it had few natural resources.
Although many Japanese wear western style clothing, almost all the people dress in traditional Kimonos during festivals, or holidays, or other special occasions. Many Japanese artists combine traditional and Western styles and themes in their works.
