Chess Corner

The inauguration of the Emilio Aguinaldo College Medical Center-Cavite (EACMC-C) was a great success. It coincided with the birthday of Dr. Paulo C. Campos.  Gracing the twin celebrations was former President Fidel V. Ramos, who during his talk primed up his audience to loudly respond to his rallying thumbs-up icon, "KAYA NATIN 'TO,"  as he encouraged the Cavite folks to push through economic progress by doubling  community efforts.
What I noticed was that he literally rejected the speech prepared by Dr.  Leopoldo M. Delacruz, Jr.   and brilliantly showered us a  sincere discourse which kept the listeners on their toes eager to hear more of his secrets to success.
Another success factor in this event was the presence of Dr. Francisco T. Duque III, Secretary of the Department of Health. In his keynote address, he welcomed the opening of the EACMC-C  as a plus in the government's  health programs in the countryside.
Former Prime Minister Cesar Virata, president of the Cavite Historical Society which was founded by Dr. Campos, our Cavite Governor Ayong Maliksi, Mayor Pidi Barzaga and SB Gabby Mercado took time out from their hectic schedule to grace the event. Others were the PNP Provincial Director of Cavite, Chairman Danilo Dolor of UPSI, Bishop Sobreveņas, NRCP President Fortunato dela Peņa, UP Chancellor Dr. Ramon Arcadio, Mr. Doy Sanchez,  members of the Lions Club  of Dasmariņas, SB members of Dasmariņas, the La Salle sisters, Mrs. Cely Cantimbuhan, the Camposes and other prominent citizens of Dasmariņas. This column would like to echo Dr. Paulo C. Campos' deep appreciation and thanks to all of them and to all who supported and attended these twin celebrations. Their names may not have been printed here but their faces and spirit enlivened and cheered up the good doctor.
The celebrations started with a mass celebrated by Bishop Sobreveņas. We were not able to attend the mass  because I and the 4 Tambuli student-writers were barred entry. When the blessing program started, we joined the group of media men and ABS-CBN to gain entry and be able to witness and cover the event.
