Do you favor compulsory ROTC?
A bill aimed at reinstating the Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) for all male tertiary students in all private and public colleges and universities and voluntary for female students has been filed at the House of Representatives. Under House Bill 5460 known as "Mandatory ROTC Act of 2006," authored by Cebu Representative Eduardo Gullas, ROTC will form part of the curricula of all baccalaureate degree courses and of two-year technical or vocational courses as a prerequisite for graduation.
"We should require students to undergo compulsory ROTC
To retake: Deal or No Deal?

While Kris Aquino's " Kapamilya, Deal or No Deal? " game show at ABS-CBN was extended for another three weeks of airing, the question, "Retake or No Retake?"
over the  2006 Nurse Licensure Examination (NLE)  given by PRC last June this year keeps hounding not only television viewers but more specifically the passers of the examination. For how long will the authorities decide on the examination controversy, it remains to be seen. Kris Aquino's game show will be off the air a month from now, that is very sure while the Nursing passers to retake is a million dollar "Deal or No Deal?" problem.
For the record, 17,821 out of 42,006 or 42.42% passed the 2006 NLE. Emilio Aguinaldo College-
Cavite accounted for 30 Board passers. Last weekend, various groups including the Association of Deans of Philippine Colleges of Nursing strongly urged the PRC and the Board of Nursing to conduct a new licensure examination  in the wake of allegations that the 2006 exams had been marred by cheating. It was alleged that about 20 percent of test III and 90 percent of test V were leaked to examinees prior to the examination held in June 11-12, 2006.
The Department of Justice opined unofficially that the examinees should not be made to suffer the acts of the PRC, the review center and the cheaters, but those responsible must be made to answer in court. Sen. Richard Gordon pointed out  that  PRC should determine the areas where cheating occurred, and if only tests 3 and 5  were exclusively affected, then perhaps nursing aspirants  should retake these tests.
Senator Edgardo Angara lamented the alleged leakage in the nursing licensure examination. He said,  "The root cause lies in the fact that the members of the current examination board for nurses were handpicked by the president of the Philippine Nurses Association, who happens to be the owner of a nursing school and a review center where the leak allegedly came." So, truly why make everybody pay for the scandal, when only a few benefited from the leakage? Why not probe first who were involved, and once established require them to retake?
Meanwhile, EAC students' opinions generally pictured "No Retake" as expressed by some who submitted their comments and reactions regarding the scandal.
" Congratulations to the lucky 30. For being the first batch of EAC-Cavite, the number is great and   encouraging.  Kudos likewise to the teachers and clinical instructors. No retake is my stand. The 30 sacrificed, prayed and honestly observed rules. They should not be made to undergo pressure and uncertainties again,"  …Ramon A. Manuel, Nursing II
" To the passers: No retake! You will be branded REPEATERS. There is no word RETAKE in the vocabulary of PRC or any board or bar examinations so far; invalid, nullify, passed and repeat, yes, there are!" … Alva Sheila P. Bencito, Nursing II
"The entire Nursing Board should resign. Passers and none passers  should take the examination anew to erase doubts once and for all. The PRC should shoulder not only the examination fees but all expenses of the examinees that would be incurred  like travel, meal, board and lodging." … Mace Dequito, Nursing IV
"Leakages in the 2006 Nurse Licensure Exam  benefited  only some which was unfair to others. One solution is to disregard the tests  leaked out and recompute the results. But definitely, the PRC Nursing Board should resign." …  Jenny D.G, Nursing IV
"It means additional expenses and time for examinees to retake the board exam. PRC should just let everyone pass. Anyway, PRC seems to have lost credibility because of this scandal " …  Rachelle Tan, Nursing IV
"Like most government agencies, PRC should be revamped, cleanse from the bottom before giving licensure examinations. PRC should prove first that it is a credible institution to give licenses. The examinees should file legal damages against the PRC Nursing Board for its incompetence." …  Len Ydel, Nursing IV
"Just let those who want to retake the exam, passers or non passers. It is really expensive to retake the exam and PRC, at the most, would just shoulder the examination fee." …Joyce Pastor, Nursing III
"I will retake the exam if I was one of the examinees. The test items and topics covered will still be fresh in my mind and I will have a good chance to pass the test." …  Arian Audine, Nursing II
"I will not retake the exam if I was one of the passers. Retaking simply means that I cheated. And just consider the trouble and expenses of taking the exam again." … Marieto Tapiador, Nursing IV
"PRC- the Professional Regulation Commission, is a name signifying supreme integrity. But it has not been "professional" and has always been "irregular" maybe because of the "commissions". Is there still integrity in the licenses coming from PRC?"…Allen Catamisan, Nursing IV

Smile,forgive to stop more troubles
by: Alyhs Zaid
Being in college doesn't mean that you have to be there just to study. Of course, you have to prioritize your study! What I mean, you have the time to mingle with others and this gives rise to new relationships, as friends, close friends, and more-than-friend relationship (you know what I mean!). Everyday you see them in different scenes  because life is a day-to-day challenge…and being there is

Surrender, to be free
by: Ms. Mayette Cuaton
When I started getting rebirthed, I soon learned that the answer to it all was to totally surrender. I could easily see that the people who surrendered went into bliss and the people who resisted went into pain. Life is like that. Relationships are like that. I remember Leonard once saying to me that people who had the ability to totally surrender did not go into paralysis in Rebirthing. I never went into paralysis in rebirthing, although sometimes it was very close. During those times I just kept saying to myself

For sure, you would not lose a thing greeting 'good morning!'

1.        The Rich Kid - ito ang taong laging busy. May lakad na importante, maraming appointments, pictorials, tapings, sports tournament at spa treatments. In short, sandamukal ang excuses.  CONTRIBUTION:\\FINANCIAL
5.        The EIC - ito 'yung Editor-in-Chief ng grupo. Masipag at laging may bagong idea. CONTRIBUTION:\\PANONOXIC AT PANINISI
Kumbaga narcoleptic sila! Konting galaw, konting kibot, isang hikab, sabay tulog. Magunaw man ang mundo basta't sila'y masandal o mahiga, solve na! CONTRIBUTION:\\SIYA ANG TAGABIGAY HUDYAT SABAY PREPARE NG HIGAAN KAPAG TULUGAN NA
9.        The Great Einstein - ito ang taong over confident, grandiose, at sobrang henyo!  In a wink of an eye,  dada!  tapos ang thesis.  Maraming ideas, maraming konsepto puro dada, wala namang  ginagawa.  CONTRIBUTION:\\MOTIVATION NG GRUPO "KAYA NYO 'YAN!"
10.        The OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. Ito ang taong suwerte sa grupo.  Siya ang taong gusto'y organisado, planado at perpekto ang trabaho, a.k.a "Perfectionist."   Reminder niya, "Dapat tayo ang Best in Thesis." CONTRIBUTION:\\DISCIPLINARY OFFICER.

"I surrender. I will not resist God." I have found that in relationships it is hard to surrender totally unless you have unconditional love and trust going. I have noticed that it is easier to surrender to someone who has worked out the "five biggies" and is into positive thinking. When you feel really safe, It is easier to surrender. Of course, you must create safety in your own mind. This is easier to do around a safe and loving person.
Meditate on the word surrender. Surrender. Surrender to God. Surrender to your mate. Surrender to the highest spiritual thought. Surrender is not a form of behavior. It is an openness and a willingness to receive.
Surrender is giving up control but not losing power. It does not mean giving up your power to another person; on the contrary, it is an act made to increase your own power. This is because when you are willing to receive, you are taking in more love, and when you are taking in more love, you are taking in more independence, more freedom, and more God. Power comes from love, safety, certainty, and surrender to God.
People sometime have trouble understanding the concept that a relationship can bring you freedom. The fear of being trapped and smothered comes mostly from the birth trauma. A loving relationship can help to heal the birth trauma because the love pushes out the trauma. You can also feel trapped or smothered because of your thoughts. A relationship will heal those thoughts by bringing them to the surface and exposing them to love. Any time you are giving up thoughts to death and negativity you will feel freer and freer. They may never come out of you if you did not let someone love you deeply.
In other words, only true freedom is freedom from death and negativity. Since the love in the relationship will heal of these things if you let it play the game right, it follows that a relationship can be freeing rather than constricting.
The more negativity I give up the freer I am. The love in a relationship always helps me to release negativity and therefore I am more free.

not a joke. Here's some medications regarding relationship that might help ease your pain a little bit.
The hidden benefits of forgiveness. If you've been holding a grudge against your guy, get over it…for the sake of your health. Research suggests that forgiveness is good for you. Conflict and resentment take a toll on your body by raising your blood pressure and heart rate, and forgiveness reverses these effects. "Express your anger, but as long as he makes an attempt to repair the situation, let it go," advises Kathleen A. Lawler, PhD, a professor of psychology at the University of Tennesse. Clinging to your anger will hurt you more than his initial transgression did.
There's no harm in trying to forgive, it may take time to heal but it will lessen your pain and problem. It has a good effect on you from physical to psychological. Forgiving a person will help you to be strong and be mature. Nothing will be taken from you if you'll forgive someone who has done wrong to you. From that point, you can start a new day with a smile and confidence. So, for those who are out there having troubles and problems regarding friendship, quarrels on love or anything: it is just a text away to say that you forgive them and "let's talk it over." Now, you'll have a better time to study because you're free from emotional and psychological disturbances.

The changing times and accelerating tempo of life in this modern world would have conspired to place importance on student's attitudes and behaviors. The home, where discipline is first implemented is the place where set of standards must be applied. Parents are expected to do their responsibilities to mold their child in good manners and right conduct. The attitudes or behavior of their children are the reflection of what they taught them.
According to (the book of) Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." This may serve as a reflection that will help parents in keeping their children to be a good one. Parents should understand that they are not the only people who their child will mingle with. Their children will be exposed to numerous types of people who directly or with their behaviors will teach new things and who can change them differently from what their parents imposed.
The environment, where lots of activities are present helps a child to make his or her own decision. In school, the teachers as facilitators inside the classroom to teach the basics of behaviors to make a student a better man.  They teach them how to greet anybody most especially persons in authority and the elderly. But as we observed, only  few knew  how to do it.
Good manners are not only to be  learned but also to be applied. Even if you are the brightest, it would seem you're nothing if you do not apply what you have learned. For this school year, may each and every one learn to greet one another and continuously do it. More importantly, this may  serve as message to the students, there's nothing bad in saying "Good morning", "Good afternoon", or "Good day" but instead it will give a good image of you not only to your teachers but for every body.
Always remember that you are judge by your words and actions so it is better to be judged nicely and just. Every body is encourage to greet properly because it is a picture of one's etiquette that was developed from home and school. Start the year right so that it may end right. Welcome back to school!

as a requirement for their graduation. In this way, we prepare a generation of young people who are ready to defend the country in any eventuality," Gullas said in a statement.
As expected the bill is met with mixed reactions  from those who completed ROTC and those presently enrolled in ROTC as a component of NSTP. Some of them said:
"I really hope this bill does not see the light of day. If the military's idea of defense preparation is marching all day under the sun, without marksmanship and map-reading lessons, then mandatory ROTC is no use. I endured four semesters of ROTC, and I tell you with a straight face that ROTC is useless. I took ROTC in a state university and never in my four semesters did I touch an M-16, much less fire a single shot. All we did was to stay under the sun and rain to march, and march, and march. Even if we get 200,000 reservists, all of them would only be marching to their deaths." …Engr. Carlson B. Amar
" It is necessary as a training preparation not only for readiness to fight and to stay alive in case of war but to be able to stay strong and physically capable of helping others during calamities in our country." …Alexis Onia

"The ROTC is a leadership program designed not only to guide future officers of our military in the first steps of their careers but also to develop public speaking, conscious citizenship and physical excellence.  It is also an educational program that combines college electives and leadership training. ROTC will help to prepare men and women to become military officers or leaders in their chosen fields."…Christian Paul Martinez, Customs Administration

"For me, students must be given freedom to choose between ROTC and NSTP to be fair to those female students who want to take ROTC and for the male who want to join the NSTP." …Daniel Jay Salvador, Nursing II

"The Mandatory ROTC Act of 2006  seeks to organize and mobilize students for national preparedness in the event of a national security emergency. At present, there is a need for preparing a generation of young people ready to assist in case of calamities and to defend our country in any eventuality." … Alva Sheila P. Bencito, Nursing II

"Students who undergo ROTC can have physical advantages than others who do not - right posture, masculine body, quick mind and intelligence. … Dante Gayagas, Nursing I-6

"For me, it is just O.K. to have ROTC for us students. It helps us build discipline in our selves." …Ericson Marasigan, Customs Administration I

"If there is one sure thing that would teach the youth to hate their country, it is ROTC. Just ask all of those who endured four semesters of hell. And patriotism is voluntary. Forced patriotism is fake patriotism." …Mr. Willy D. Benban

"I hope ROTC will be totally abolished. I think that it will not affect our career neither it is important in our course." …Dennis Malvar, Management I

"A full debate on the Gullas bill is urged. Let the leaders of the executive, the Congress, the military, students and the schools come together for a national discussion.  Somebody should take the lead." … Ramon A. Manuel, Nursing II

"It is OK to have ROTC if it is a requirement for graduation. But I wish that it will be moved to Saturdays, for us to have a rest day." … Oscar Bryan Buhain, Accountancy I

"I prefer the present set up: students can choose between ROTC and NSTP; not all college students like to have ROTC." … Jay June Moton, Management I

"Article II, Section 4 of the Constitution directs the government - to call upon the people to defend the State and, in the fulfillment thereof, all citizens may be required, under conditions provided by law, to render personal, military or civil service.  The proposed ROTC program is within the bounds of law. It follows a  concept of a national service and a Philippine citizen army."…  Shaidone, Nursing I-4

"For experience, it is important in wars or calamities. Who knows, I will be in a battlefield as a nurse in the AFP or the US Navy?" …Jay Mark Estrada, Nursing I-6
