Easter Stamp
Easter has long been associated with
lilies, and they are the subjects of this Easter 1999 issue. A novel feature is that each
of the four stamps has part of a Biblical text merged into the background. The 10c value
features Eucharis grandiflora - this beautiful lily with fragrant flowers of the purest
white originates from Colombia. Hippeastrum puniceum is the subject of the 25c-value
stamp. It is a strikingly attractive lily, which blooms freely at the advent of the rainy
season. The species Zephyranthes citrina is variously known as the Fairy Lily, flowers of
the West Wind, Rain Lily. It is a pretty little bulbous plant of 5-10 inches. Known as the
Spider Lily (Hymenocallis littoralis) is found abundantly in moist soils
throughout Belize($1.00). This salt tolerant lily also grows close to the seashore. The
1999 Easter stamp of Cayman Islands is shown here. |
