Ross Island
Ross Dependency Stamps Demand, both
local and international, has warranted the reintroduction of special Ross Dependency stamps.
Discontinued in 1987 when the New Zealand Post Office on the ice was closed,
these stamps were missed, particularly by philatelists who will certainly welcome their
return. In November 1994 a definitive issue of ten stamps will replace the New Zealand
stamps currently in use for mail from Scott Base at the Ross Dependency. The issue depicts
ten different species of wildlife which have adapted to, live and breed successfully in
this harsh environment. The penguins, seals, petrels and skuas featured in this delightful
issue are displayed at their best. Fine detail and beautiful colour enhances what are
already photogenic subjects. . |
