		Wicca celebrates the cycle of the year, known as The Wheel of the Year, consisting of eight Sabbats, and each stage is seen as reflecting the interplay of the greater forces of nature. The festivals coincide with important times and natural milestones in the agricultural cycle of the year. Different people in different places celebrated the Sabbats in the ancient world; the Sabbats, as we celebrate them now, have evolved from this observance of the natural cycle. The Sabbats are; the quarter days or fire festivals - Samhain, Imbolc, Beltaine and Lughnasadh, the Summer and Winter Solstices and the Spring and Autumn Equinoxes. At each point in the Wheel of the Year the Goddess and God are seen in their various aspects: maid, mother and crone, son, King and Lord of Death. No phase of life is seen as negative or worth less than the others. All stages in any process are necessary, are of equal worth and part of the natural cycle.

	Esbat is a word that means �minor celebration�, but don't be fooled by the word �minor�. Esbats are important to witches and the craft, and we love to celebrate them. Esbats involve the moon and her phases. Some witches celebrate each of the moons phases - from waxing, to full and waning to new, whilst others just celebrate the full moon. Full moon esbats are very important as the moon is at her peak, and her magical energies are more potent now than at any other time of the month. This means that your request has a much better chance of being granted. Though there are only 12 calendar months in each year, there are 13 full moons. This means that 1 month of the year gets 2 full moon esbats. The second full moon in known as the blue moon. This makes it a very powerful full moon and a very powerful month.

And Esbat is a ritual Pagans do on the night of the full moon. To the ancient peoples, the moon was mysterious, beautiful and a thing to respect. There are 13 full moons in a year, 13 times to pay special honor to the Goddess. The moon is a feminine symbol and that is why we associate the moon with the Goddess. The moon regulates the ocean tides and people even planted their crops by the phases of the moon. Before the days of artificial light, women would get their periods around the full moons as well.The moon is one of the most beautiful things in nature and its no wonder why people have been fascinated by it for centuries. Esbats are the time when many covens do the Drawing Down the Moon ritual. The Charge of the Goddess is read and the Goddess enters the body of the High Priestess to give messages and blessings. There are many ways to do this, but the most popular is to stand out under the full moon, arms raised to the sky and feel the presence of the Goddess enter your body. You could feel extremely energized, or maybe enter a trance-like state. The experience is different for everyone.

WANING MOON Time: From full moon to dark moon (approx.14 days) Goddess Aspect: Crone Associated Goddesses: Callieach, Banshee, Hecate, Kali, Morrigan Magickal Attributes: BANISHING Releasing the old, removing unwanted negative energies, wisdom, psychic ability, scrying, reversing circumstances
