Mack Trucks: The Top Dog
I've been driving trucks for nearly a half century first to make some spending money while I was in school, professionally as a cement truck, dump truck, van and tank truck driver, and on my own hauling a wide range of equipment, animals and "stuff" from here to there.
To me, the best trucks on the road are made by Mack. My favorite is the B-Model series, which was produced from 1953-1966. I have found several that were in serious state of disrepair and brought them back to life.
Below are some photos of Mack Trucks currently calling Donni-Brook home. Be sure to scroll to the bottom to see the latest additions!
![]() This is the newest addition to my collection of Mack trucks. This is a 1952 L.F.T. Mack Tractor. It has a 510 gas engine. This was the same type Mack that I first drove when I was 18 years old. ![]() This R-Model Mack is used to pull a 6,500-gallon tank trailer, delivering whey to various pork operations. ![]() This twin-screw B-61 is now a dump truck. I found it in West Virgina, where it had spent its life as a cement mixer. ![]() Here is a true rarity. This Mack Truck is a Model B-81X. Made in 1957, it is one of only 48 ever built. It spent 15 years in a salvage yard. To bring it home, I had to remove a tree that had grown up through the floor board and out through a broken driver's side window. Amazingly, after all that time, I turned it over 6 times and it started right up. It continues to run great! ![]() This 1958 B-Model was owned by Matlack Bulk Transportation for many years. Now it is the crown jewel of our collection. ![]() This R-Model (far left) was the first new truck purchased in 1970 by R.M. Neff, a mail carrier in Zanesville, Ohio. It was restored to new condition by his grandsons, and we now show it off at truck shows around the country. This photo, as well as the two B-Model shots above, were taken during a recent show by the Buckeye Vintage Haulers in Hebron, Ohio, of which I am a member. It spent many years in military service, then found a home in central Illinois before I brought it home to add to the "collection." |
