Everything you always wanted to know about going to Supai but couldn't find anywhere else...

PREPARE FOR THE TREK

Preparing for a trip to Havasupai Indian Reservation is pretty much just like preparing for a backpacking trip anywhere. Just remember that whatever you pack into the canyon, you are packing right back out again. This is one place you do NOT want to overpack for. Leftover food and supplies sitting on recently deserted campsites is a very common site in Supai! It's almost a social thing, now, that when you leave things behind, to let your fellow campers know there are goodies to be had, left behind as a compromise for an easy hike out.

I have found that freeze-dried gourmet backpacking food is the way to go. There is a spring near the campground where water is plentiful, and one can always walk up to the town to augment one's diet with some local specialties. (Heavy emphasis on the word "up" to town, as in "up", 2.5 miles, and mostly through sand!)

This handy diagram shows an efficient way to pack one's backpack to optimize weight distribution and convenience of oft needed articles.
