|
I come from far away. Not just from Romania, or Eastern Europe, but even farther, from the begginig of the Century, I would say. An archaic world, living upon permanent rules, with unchanged rituals and symbols turned into taboos. When these symbols, rules, superstitions, nightmares and faith are created, a little from the style, purpose and meaning of the "Story" comes into life. The "Winter Show" I propose (drawings combined with watercolors, acrylics and oil) are meditations on dramas, problematic situations, generally human, or of some local specific. |

ARTISTIC GOALS
I have a goal for each of my two fields of interest: painting and icons.
PAINTING GOALS
In my paintings I want to capture the mystery, the light, the hidden secret of my subject, the untold story in its typical setting.
I want to depict interesting scenes that draw the viewer�s interest. I want to encourage people to wonder, �Where is she coming from? What does she mean by that?� I feel most fulfilled when the interlocutor imagines himself in the scene.
ICON PAINTING GOALS
I paint Byzantine wood icons and Romanian glass icons using traditional techniques. To understand better the meaning and the importance of the icons in the old and modern society I am presenting a short history of Byzantine and Romanian icons. |

I work primarily in watercolors (including tempera and egg-tempera) and acrylics. I prefer to work on paper, canvas, wood, glass or other firm, non-bending surfaces. I�ve recently begun working in oil paints. They are a whole set of new challenges, particularly the period of drying. |

|
I always start with at least two sketches (sometimes using computer programs, like Color it, or Adobe), probably more. My biggest challenge is to get the lighting and shadows right, but at the same time to get the image the way I want it to look. |
