How to Commission a Painting

This page describes the procedure for hiring me to paint a unique, personal painting of your choice.

I
nitial Discussion

We'll converse initially via e-mail. I'll begin by asking you some questions.

What are you looking for in a painting?
What will be the subject?
What kind of style (realistic, deco, portrait, landscape, etc.) would you like the painting to have?  The subject usually suggests the style.
Do you want it to be painted in pastels or acrylics? I use soft pastels, which lend a softer, gentler (but not necessarily lighter) quality to the work. I use acrylic paints, which looks more fluid than the pastels and more like a classic oil painting, or I can use watercolors..
Want colors do you prefer?
How big do you want the painting?
And where will you hang it in your home?

Once we agree on the painting details, we will discuss the painting fee and complete a contract, and I request a $200 down payment. I'll give you an approximate start date for the painting. It will take approximately two to four weeks to complete.

Receiving the painting

I will place the portrait into a simple metal frame. If the work is a pastel, I will also mat and place it under glass. Then I will either deliver or ship the framed painting to you. At that time, the remaining balance must be paid in full by money order, wire transfer, certified check, or a check non indorsable by a third party.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Paintings Prices

I base my prices on several characteristics of the work.

The painting surface (either it's PastelBord, paper, canvas.)
The quantity of the colors involved; and
The size of the final work.

The final work can be any size 14"x14" or larger. I've listed sample dimensions below for reference.
Prices include matting and a simple metal frame.

Prices are guaranteed until December 31, 2003; on that date, fees will rise.

Prices are the same whether the medium is acrylic or pastel, oil or watercolor. As to the painting surface: I work on PastelBord, canvas, or paper for all mediums. They  are sturdy, won't buckle or tear or deteriorate, and will last for many years.
