It was almost two days after Spirit had found herself in the realm of dreams, and so far she could only count about a half hour of sun each day. The vast expanse of stars seemed never-ending. During the sun-lit minutes of the day, she noticed that the stars remained in the sky, though faint. And, strangely enough, throughout the day tiny glittering flowers that rezembled the stars of the sky were flecked across the grass. Still, she walked along the grass, cool against her bare feet. She had begun to grow hungry, though she'd had a water-skin tied to her waist before she'd fallen asleep the night she'd.. invoulentarily left home. Never had she seen an animal here in this place, not in her entire life, and she suspected that even if she were to find a living thing, she could not harm it. There were no trees or bushes of any kind, nothing. Just flatland. She'd sat down to ponder this problem when she let her hand fall on one to the star-flowers. "Of course!" she cried out, and gently picked the tiny flower and placed it in her mouth. It tasted like a sort of berry, and she picked as few as she thought would satisfy her (for she didn't want to needlessly destroy this unique form of life) and popped them, one by one, into her mouth. *** Again a full "day" passed, and still no sign of where she needed to go. Each time she looked to the sky, all she saw was the dragon. Once more she decided to look up, and this time she noticed something she hadn't before. Just behind it, she could make out the outline of the great Crystal River. But there had never been anything other then grass in the realm of dreams, and she had traveled for days without sign of any life other than the star-flowers. That night she could not sleep, and for the first time could sense other beings around her. She suspected that they were the spirits of other humans while they slept, visiting with the realm of dreams as she had often done. It never occured to her that there were other souls with her while she was in her wolf form, most likely because it is hard enough to see not living spirits, much less one that was still attached to a physical form. Finally the still night lulled her to sleep, and amazingly, she could almost make out the forms of other creatures in this endless grassland.
Fate again led her to the egg, and this time, rather then returning to her physical body, she fell asleep a wolf curled around the egg. When she awoke, she was in her human form, but in her fists were two small eggs, black and white. She put them in her belt pack, and her sensitive ears--one of the attributes of the wolf--picked up the sound of running water. Heading in the direction swiftly, she reached a crystal clear river, and down the bank she could make out a pass.. ..That lead directly into the Mountains of the Gods. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Statistics SilverValley |
