Marian fell to her death from her 6th floor hotel room window at 346 Sutter Street San Francisco. She struck the ledge, four stories below, of a building next door, and hurtled through a lightwell to the concrete floor of an alleyway. She died shortly after being removed to Harbor Emergency Hospital. The San Francisco police called it a suicide, citing statements of a man she had met at a dance sometime previously.
As mentioned above, Marian had been close to her cousin, Ludwig Andrew Heger. She and Ludwig had been corresponding around the time of her death and he didn't believe it was a suicide. She had been planning to come visit him in Panama where he was stationed. Ludwig noted, ``Her window had no screens, so nurses would sit on the window sills to get cool air. She was doing 2 private cases at one time and was probably tired, closed her eyes and it happened. She wanted to be an anesthesist and was saving for it.''
After Marian's death, her cousin Genevieve accompanied her body back to Minnesota for the funeral.
