| Internet Safety Rules 1. NEVER, NEVER give out personal information online. Don't tell anyone your family situation, your telephone number, your address or where you go to school. 2. Remember, people do lie. For example, you are a sophomore in high school in MA and you are talking to a really cool 16 year old girl in New York. Is the person you are talking to really 16? How do you know? That person could really be a 45 year old man with a criminal record. 3. If you are having problems at home or at school, a friend you meet online may not be the best person to talk to about those problems. Remember the 16 year old girl? The advice that person gives you may not be what is best for you, but what is best for him/her. 4. Finally, if the person you are talking to online wants to meet you or suggests that you run away to meet them, DON'T GO! You don't know this person and you don't know what his or her real motives are. |
