projectors mounted on a frame at the rear of a standard Universal Carrier
The Universal or Bren Gun Carrier was originally designed to be a light infantry
carrier providing close fire support with a Bren Light Machine Gun. The
Universal Carrier would see service in all theatres of World War Two and would
also serve many different roles. It would be employed as an ammunition carrier,
a radio carrier, mortar and medium machine gun base, towing anti-tank guns and
even as a flamethrower.
Basically, the carriers were used as a troop transport, ammunition carriers,
casualty evacuation and forward reconnaissance vehicles. It would typically have
two crew, the Commander/Gunner and the Driver, along with carrying three
infantrymen.
