Projects

This page highlights our unique Class Projects. As we progress through the school year we will be doing many projects that will involve
students in a hands-on or laboratory-type learning environment.

We will post photos of us in action, examples of student work, and anything else that represents our class activities.

Our Backyard Habitats - October 2003

We have been studying about the kinds of plants and animals that live in our backyard. We have learned that just like us, animals and other living things have neighborhoods, too. These are called "habitats." There are many different kinds of habitats. Some are warm, some are cold; some are wet, some are dry. There are others, too.

Below are some drawings that show what kinds of plants and animals that we find in our own backyards here in the Great Lakes region:

Habitats - October 2003

We study about the world around us. Sometimes there are things that we don't even notice because we are not really paying attention to them. Like, things that are living all around us. Our study of habitats helped us to see some of the things that we might not have looked too closely at before. Everything in a habitat is there for a reason. Sometimes it is to give food, and sometimes it is there so that some living thing can have a home to live in. Sometimes a thing is there just because it looks nice! Well, maybe not that reason, but we sure learned a lot about the world around us and the many different kinds of habitats that living things are found in.

1st Grade Proverbs (Illustrated) from 2002 - 2003
(Please be patient while the photos load . . . )

Out of the mouths of babes come the most prolific bits of wisdom. Here is a collection of our very own Proverbs, written by Ms. K's very bright First Graders. Although the Proverbs are really enough to keep us pondering "the meaning of it all" for some time, the students' drawings are just as rich in philosophical logic. Have a look and enjoy!
