Learning Centers

Everyday, our students participate in Learning Centers. A Learning Center is a particular place to do a particular activity. There are several different activities happening at the same time. Children move from center to center so that each child has the opportunity to participate in, learn from and complete the materials in each of the centers.

As the school year progresses, I will provide examples, photos, and other materials relating to our centers on this page. Please check here often for future updates.

Additionally, we have regularly scheduled days in our Labs. Students participate in hands-on Science and Computer activities. From time to time I will post pictures and information about those activities on this page as well. So check this page often

Classroom center games help with basic learning skills.

Students can participate alone or in a group. Either way, there are many types of activities that are enjoyed by all students.
Activities can include games or basics like reading or math.

Science Lab

Our school has a very well equipped Science Lab. It has really cool tables, nifty stools, and all kinds of cool stuff to learn with. We like to use the lab because we feel like real scientists. We use this lab just like it is a learning center in our room; we just walk down the hall to get there.

Bubbles, bubbles and more bubbles!

Sometimes it's just fun to play with bubbles! But wait! If we are playing then why do we have to write down stuff about them?

Oh, I get it! We learned about bubbles and how different types of things with holes in them make different sized bubbles. We used regular bubble wands, plastic straws, vegetable graters, and other things that Ms. K gave us that had holes in them.

Basically, we found out that the best bubbles come from regular bubble wands. And, it was great fun!

Sink or Float?
November 2003

Bet it will sink! Bet it won't! It's a rock...it has to sink!

Who says a rock has to sink? There are some rocks, like pumice, that float. That is why we did an experiment on stuff that sinks and stuff that floats. We took regular things like rocks, popsicle sticks, and other stuff and used our science skills to decide if they would sink or float. Then we put 'em in the water and saw the results. Of course, since it is school, we had to write our findings down in a log.

It was cool! We felt like regular science guys!

Computer Lab

(Photos coming soon!)

We go to the Computer Lab every week. There are lots of computers and TV screens called 'monitors' packed into this room. And, there are miles and miles of cables. The room even has mice! We have to really pay attention so we don't step on them. Ha! These mice are computer 'mice' and they help us to use the computers. So, we couldn't really step on them . . . that was just a little computer humor.
