WILL DREAMWORKS WORK?

Over three years has gone by since the great legends of hollywood, teamed up to form a studio. Two of these legends are worth mentioning. Steven Spielberg, the man who put art into pure entertainment (and single handedly influenced the way Hollywood is run today) and Jeffrey Katzenberg, the man who left Disney disgruntled after being passed over for the top job. Katzenberg was the head of animation in the time that the golden trilogy of Disney films were produced: "Beauty and the Beast, Alladin and the Lion King." David Geffen was the other wiz who would work on multi media and music. I believe that Dreamworks, after a shaky start, will work. Even though the offerings so far, have been unexceptional (The Peace Maker was its first film... pretty embarrassing really), there has been at least one great film (Amistad).

WHY WILL IT WORK?

When these people were working for other companies, they all created hits. Now that their personal fortunes are at stake, the quality of product that will come out will undoubtedly be amazing. Early indications are proving the point. On this site, I will look at reporting on some of the most exciting and possibly groundbreaking films that will emerge over the next year. Starting with Saving Private Ryan, moving onto the Prince of Egypt (by preliminary accounts, an awesome movie destined for Academy nominations), and the movie that is said to make Toy Story look like amateurish animation, ANTZ. If these three films do not live up to expectations, so be it. But, if the worse thing happens and they don't make any money while being groundbreaking, then we will lose a studio that is advancing cinema into the new millenium.
