SPIES SEEM TO BE EVERYWHERE
But ofcourse, this whole thing could be made up. If I were a studio boss I'd sure as hell get people to leak stuff to sites like aint-it-cool. The leaked news of the scoring session for Saving Private Ryan reached the mainstream press. Anyway, if it's true, it sounds great. As usual, an intro from Harry Knowles. PS. Note that this was written before the commercial success of Deep Impact. If it's true, who badly did they misjudge the film!:
Well, I guess this is about as rumor-y as ya get. The part that perked my ears was what the 'source' claims Spielberg now feels his best film is. I do know this. When I talked to one person that has seen it, they were visually affected by the experience. Then there was that report a while back about the muscian that could barely play during the scoring session, because they were emotionally wrecked by the film. I'll tell you this, having read the script, it's possibly some of the best material Spielberg has ever had. I have hopes for this summer and this year. Among them is that Godzilla kick my ass, that Armageddon knock me unconcious, that Saving Private Ryan tear my heart out, to be awed by the simple awe of Pleasantville, and for me to rewitness the beauty of cinema through Malick's camera in A Thin Red Line. If each of those things happens this year, then I'll be a happy and sated film goer. Now personally I also want at least 30 films that I haven't heard a whisper about to pop up and say "Peek-a-boo" So here's the report from that Fiend without a face!!!
Just thought I'd send you some news from a source at Dreamworks. I was having dinner a few nights ago with some friends at a restaurant here in SoCal. We were spread into two booths, so I the conversation I heard was right behind me from part of our group. Others heard it as well, so they will back me up on this. A young man who works with Spielberg had the following things to say about some upcoming films:
DEEP IMPACT-"not too good, and not a huge amount of enthusiasm for it. Fortunately we are splitting the costs, so we should break even on our side."
SAVING PRIVATE RYAN-"the best film Steven has ever done, and what he feels is his best work. People will be crying their eyes out."
THE PRINCE OF EGYPT-"we have a good shot at Best Picture at the Oscars next year."
When asked a question about the possibility of anymore Indiana Jones films, the gentleman just kept saying "no comment-can't tell you anything-sorry."
He also stated that Spielberg will no longer sign autographs because of people selling it for hundreds of dollars, and he feels betrayed because he thought that those people were fans.
If you can use any of this, feel free. Just sign me "Murnau."
