ANTZ
ANTZ is the next big film from Dreamworks after Saving Private Ryan. Due to hit Australia on October 29, Antz seems to have the potential to be a big draw for both adults and children alike. With Woody Allen playing a paranoid ant, one suspects that this movie will definitely appeal more to adults. Antz was supposed to have been released in May next year, but Disney basically did a shifty on Dreamworks. Dreamworks then did the mother of all shiftys, pushing the release date of Antz, one month ahead of the Disney/Pixar "A Bug's Life". As I've noted below, both films have a totally different visual style. The Ants in Antz have very very strong facial features and the pictures seem darker than those of A Bug's Life. However, the quality of the 3 D images are excellento. Just look at the detail of the above picture. Below are two images of a more brightly coloured part of the film. Product placement is huge (imagine it on the big screen) in the first one, and the second one is pretty brilliant.
But of all the images, this is one of my favourites. I don't know what is happening here, but the graphics are unreal. This is gonna be one "kewl" film dudes.
COMPARING ANIMATION SHOTS

I think from this, it definitely looks different to the Disney/Pixar production, "A Bugs Life": Below is an animation from A Bugs Life. The above shot has much more detail, but the photo below seems to have a greater sense of reality. Of course, we won't know until opening date... but those that have seen previews of Antz think it's better than anything from Pixar (I don't know how they can say this, since they say it's better than Toy Story, but the technology used in Toy Story technology is at least two years old and would conceivably be much better now).
