CARING FOR PRIMARY TEETH
                    Did You Know?
*  Half of all children 4 years of age has dental decay
*  Dental decay is the most prevalent disease of childhood.
*  Using oral analgesics more than 4 times a day on teething  gums could cause damage
*  Prescription antibiotic suspensions contain 50%-80%        sugar---necessary to clean child's mouth after each dose
*  A fetus does not take calcium from the mother's teeth--it    takes it from her bones
Keeping Teeth Clean
-Before teeth erupt, clean gums with a wet cloth after each feedings
-After first tooth erupts, use a soft bristled brush and warm water to clean teeth
-By age 3, let child start
brushing with adult brushing afterwards.  Start flossing once all primary teeth are in, or when teeth start touching each other
-By age 8, child should be able to brush and floss by themselves with occasional checks
-Try to make brushing and flossing enjoyable, but also tell your child that it is as important as taking a bath!  Remember that you are the adult for those of you who have 2-year-olds! :-)
