SILVERCHAIR

silverchair are 3 ozzie guys: Daniel Johns (vocals & guitar), Ben Gillies (drums) & Chris Joannou (bass) from newcastle, NSW, Australia who started out in '92 as "Innocent Criminals".. they changed their name when they wrote down two songs (to request on the radio): "silver" (misspelling "sliver" by nirvana) & "chair" (short for "berlin chair" by you am i) making silverchair!! duh! They now have four albums: Frogstomp (1995), Freakshow (1997), Neon Ballroom* (1999) & Diorama (2002). Thats pretty much it..

hate is what i feel for you

Silverchair kick off this album with "Israel's Son" an angry song w/ a wicked bassline- prob the best song on the album... the lyrics, on frogstomp, leave a lot to be desired... but hey these guys were 15 when they wrote it.. tomorrow- the bands first single is lyrically the worst song "there's no bathroom & there is no sink.. the water out of the tap is very hard to drink" on the album. Standout songs like; "Suicidal Dream" is both lyrically & musically impressive.. silverchair show their emotion & angst with the world & people through their songs.. & continue to do so w/ all their albums.

come on, abuse me more, i like it

Their second album, Freakshow, takes a different direction.... drums are heavier, singing a little deeper, slowly gaining confidence... with the song "Freak", the song the introduced me to the spell of silverchair... after hours of listening each song grows on you & sticks... i love the guitar intro to abuse me... not to mention the simple yet twisty lyrics...

increase, delete, escape defeat.. its all that matters to you

with Neon Ballroom, their third album, Johns shows his intensity & emotions throughout the album..... this is by far the best silverchair album... with so many standout songs that are so very different... "Emotion Sickness" enters us into the world of Neon Ballroom.. with a major orchestral/piano feel, emotive lyrics & an explosive climax this shows us a different enlightening side to Johns' voice. The stunning and dramatic sound of "Steam Will Rise" is haunting & spacey while both "Miss You Love" & the amazing "Ana's Song" is equally as compelling with heartfelt lyrics which many could relate to. silverchairs continual originality has allowed them to evolve from a grungey teenage band into an incredible, experimental & extremely talented silverchair.

distant emotion hides a concrete wall

silverchairs latest album, Diorama, is the most experimental 'chair album & although thats not a bad thing.. they unfortunately sacrifice their heavier sound.. for a more orchestral feel .... there are high points; "The Lever" & "One Way Mule" being strong lyrically with great heavy guitar riffs... unfortunately these songs are few & far between on this album... the experimental album was inevitable but hopefully their next material will go back to the original heavy grungey but emotional silverchair we all know and love.
