Ireland (Eire / Erin) is an Island off the west coast of Europe. It has 4 provinces (see crest below). It is also spilt in to 32 'Counties'. The southern 26 are refered to as the 'Republic of Ireland' after gaining independance from Britain in the early 1920's after the 1916 Easter Rising. The northern 6 are refered to as 'Northern Ireland' as they are still occupied by Britian and a part of the 'UK - United Kingdom of Great Britian and Northern Ireland'. Northern Ireland has had a troubled recent history due to some people wanting a 'United Ireland' and others wanting it to remain part of a 'UK' |
