PEBBLY BEACH, NSW
Saturday, December 18, 1999

One of the things I will remember most about this beach were the kangaroos hopping about.  It was my first close up adventure with them as we had purchased biscuits for the them to eat.  This one turned up particularly hungery and wanted fed before Brian could open the bag.  Skippy turned greedy and demanded it all as Brian stood and he stood as well, note the sharp claws...hmmmm... best let him eat and toss the food his way. Yikes! I now know why Rolf Harris suggested to tie it down.

While I was trying to hide my laughter...well not very successfully I was reminded the danger of the animals and spiders and other creatures I am not familiar that would be more than willing to make an example of my carelessness.  So with fair warning I proceeded... keeping an eye to the ground  as I never knew what to expect. Luckily the only huge scarey, hairy spiders I saw seemed to fear me as much as I did them... however the ants... well they were a different story... and mosquitos *sigh*... don't even want to go there, however I did find tea tree lotion soothing. *s*

While I was focasing on a bird on a pole Brian suggested I look at the path around my feet.  I was amazed and in awe at the variety of birds at my feet!  I felt such a huge part of a picture that was still untaken.

The scenery here is wonderful.  It was a long drive down a narrow road that wound thru the trees and up and down the hills that finally lead us to this beach.  Looking to the left side were the cliffs and to the right was the beach area with many paths.  I was surprised that a beach filled with so many kangaroos and birds of spectacular colour was not busier.  I found in my travels that while I was constantly amazed by the terrain and the beauty of this rugged land so much of it has remained unspoiled by tourism. People here seem to have a larger respect for the land and it's natural inhabitants.  Maybe only the locals know the long, winding road is so rewarding.  I feel fortunate to have been traveling with someone so willing to show the less traveled road for me.
